Starting off the new year
The start of a new year often feels like a time where we can reset, set goals and move ahead with a plan to make this year a positive one.
But what does that look like for our kids?
Here are 5 tips for talking to your child about the year ahead:
skip the resolutions, we know they don't work and for kids, can be very abstract
focus on what they would like to learn about this year; "what is one new topic you want to explore and learn more about?
focus on skills; “what is one new skill you want to develop?”
find out how they want to make a difference in the lives of others this year, “how will you show kindness or help others?”
always make it positive; focus on what you will do, not what you want to stop doing
What age is the right age to start? Any age! Even our toddlers can engage in this conversation, it's a wonderful way to start exploring the skill of goal setting.
